Porcelain Patio, Composite Decking & Sleepers Beds, Otley

This new build garden renovation in Otley was a challenging project in both terms of logistics and design.  The lawned garden area was a largely unusable due to its steep slope and major drainage issues, caused by water runoff from the fields to the rear of the property. Working closely with our customer, we came up with a design that would create more usable areas within the garden and solve the drainage problems, whilst allowing the opportunity to introduce some shrubs and trees to the garden. 

The initial stages of the build focussed on dealing with the drainage issues.  We designed a system using the innovative Hydrotrench drainage channels, with approximately 70m of the product installed throughout the garden, in addition to a new manhole chamber with built-in silt trap.  ACO drains were also installed to the rear of the property.   

Retaining walls were then built to the bottom of the garden slope, before being clad with Marshalls Stoneface Drystack Veneer in Harvest Mix colour. Kandla Grey Wall copings were installed to complete the look.  Timber sleepers were utilised to create a tiered planting bed system, steps to connect the upper and lower gardens and further planting beds to the upper garden area. 

A small seating area was created in the top corner of the garden through the installation of 12m² of Ecoscape Forma Spiced Oak composite decking, allowing our customers the opportunity to take in their amazing views over the Wharfe Valley. 

Quartz Gold 600x1200m porcelain paving flags from RF Paving were laid to create a large patio area to the rear of the property.  Matching flags were laid as stepping-stones to connect the patio to the timber sleeper steps, with Cotswold Buff decorative gravel used to infill the step risers and frame the stepping-stones.   

Weathered Cobbles in Pewter were utilised to in both the upper and lower garden areas to create surface level planting beds and to edge off the lawn areas. Finally, we laid 110m² of lawn turf across the two garden levels, with further Cotswold Buff decorative gravel imported to the large, sloped planting bed/rockery.
